Assessment of the Accuracy of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) in South Australia

  • Mr Geoffrey Sandford, Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, Australia
  • Digital Elevation Models have become an effective tool for remotely generating heights above sea level over large areas. This paper measures the accuracy being achieved relative to that nominated over a tract of land from the Coorong to Renmark. The study involves nearly one hundred survey marks with adjusted horizontal and vertical coordinates.
Following this assessment some uses for DEMs are suggested that the survey industry may not have considered.
