Imagery Baseline Data for South Australian Natural Resource Management Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation: Its uses for NRM

  • David Hart, Department for Environment and Heritage, Australia
  • In 2008 the Commonwealth and SA State government, together with a range of funding stakeholders including individual councils and Regional Information Centres, invested in baseline data, targeted intensification of monitoring, and monitoring technology for improved NRM outcomes and drought response in South Australia.

The project had four components; building an up to date set of statewide imagery / aerial photography, developing digital elevation models (DEM's) for high priority areas of the state, and connecting existing models to provide extensive DEM's, development of an up to date land use survey for the state building on an existing coverage, and demonstrating the use of telemetry to manage high priority natural resource assets in time of drought.

This presentation is on the delivery and range of uses the data has been put by NRMs, State and local government, regional information centres and consultants. These uses range from farm dam catchments, drought response planning, vegetation plantings and a variety of other uses.
