    • The paper introduces the Australian Bureau of Statstics' new Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS)which will replace the current Australian Statistical Geographical Classification (ASGC) in July 2011. The paper summarises the background to the ASGS and its conceptual basis. It gives and update on its development and implementation, incuding the issues that have emerged so far.
